I told my fiance to save the money and go with 18K white gold over platinum.
We did a lot of research and while the general consensus is that platinum is better, but it isn’t THAT much better than 18K white gold (just a little more durable), but there’s a huge difference in the price in most cases.
I have a beautiful ring that I love, and as long as it wasn’t yellow gold (which I **** the look of), I didn’t care what it was.
I prefer Yellow Gold. White tone metals do not compliment my skin tone.
Each woman is different though, it depends on skin tone and personal style. White Gold is really popular right now, as is Platinum, although many people shy away from the Platinum due to not only the initial cost, but upkeep and cost of resizing. A new metal that is becoming more popular for women is Titanium. It has been growing in popularity for Men’s bands for years but we are starting to see it in Engagement settings now!
Congrats on finding something your lady really loves!
I like platinum better- not only is it more durable than white gold, you won’t have to ever get it re-dipped in rhodium to cover the yellow gold. I love the way it looks up against a diamond.
Ideally I wanted a heart shaped center diamond with 3 small side diamonds on each side of the center stone set into the band and the ring would be yellow gold. My ring is actually a Solitaire with a round diamond in yellow gold and honestly I am happy I got the round diamond They reflect light better than the heart shaped ones. I have never been to keen on yellow gold but I wanted my engagement ring to be traditional with yellow gold and diamonds.
I think more people wear white gold or silver tone metals over yellow gold anymore. a few of my friends have yellow gold settings and I think they look outdated.
I was okay with white gold but my husband says that over time it can chip and look ugly. My engagement ring is platinum. I picked out my wedding ring and it’s white gold. I guess we’ll see how it holds up. I don’t wear it every day so maybe it’ll be fine.
For me it’s either yellow gold or platinum, unless the white gold is an estate piece that is at least 40 plus years old because the quality of the white gold being made today is crappy…it’s rhodium plated to hide the fact the real color of the white gold is off…top quality white gold is platinum colored (light gray-silver) and NEVER turns any color…..good luck.
I wanted yellow gold because I am very pale-skinned and the silvery color of platinum doesn’t look good on me! I also wanted gold over platinum because when platinum is professionally polished, they actually remove a thin layer of platinum from your ring! Which means your investment is losing money!!! I also despise being too trendy and since yellow gold is awesome and a great way to buck the trend, I had to have it. Because everyone I know has platinum or white gold, my ring is much prettier and different and more unique than every1 else’s!
palladium. It’s heavier than gold and cheaper than platinum. Platinum is proved to lose it’s shine rather quickly whereas palladium wears about the same as gold. Palladium and platinum have about the same wearability on the prongs, which is better than gold, which tends to release diamonds easier.
I prefer yellow gold. I have a round brilliant cut diamond in a Tiffany setting; the prongs holding the diamond are platinum but the band itself is yellow gold & I love it!

Definitely white gold or platinum with diamonds, but not too many though. Simple is best :)

I would personally prefer platinum as it look more richer and beautiful compared to its other counterparts.

Personally, white gold, with diamond accents or a blue sapphire with diamond accents…… my ideal engagement ring…
